The Second Space: Innovation and new audiences

The Second Space will be the creative heart of the new theatre, with the local community at its centre. It will be used to attract new audiences to the theatre by providing an exciting programme of performances, workshops and creative activity.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN THERE?

New performances
You will be able to enjoy a new and different programme of shows and performances that will include dance, drama, comedy, classical music, live bands, visual arts, literature, talks and digital arts.

Creative Workshops
There will be wide-ranging programme of creative workshops, giving people of all ages the chance to develop their own creativity and talents. Marlowe Youth Theatre The Second Space will provide the Marlowe Youth Theatre with a home, allowing young people from across the district to develop their own skills and talents.

Education
The Second Space will work alongside the education sector to provide a host of training and career development opportunties. There will be workshops and performances aimed at young people in schools, training for Higher Education students and the chance to develop practical experience in the theatre industry.

Developing New Work
As well as presenting shows and events, the Second Space will provide Canterbury with a venue for the development and performance of homegrown work and productions. Local artists and performers will be invited to use the space to devise and premiere their work, providing them with the support and facilities to launch themselves as professional companies.
